JOB SUMMARY
Completion of a recognized Emergency Medical Dispatcher training program. Must be able to secure and maintain EMD within 12 months of hire. Knowledge of CPR & First Aid procedures. Legible handwriting and ability to use electronic reporting equipment.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- In accordance with Kern County Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) protocols receives and process requests for service in an accurate and timely manner.
- Reports for assigned shift in time to receive proper report prior to relieving off-going Dispatchers.
- Maintains current Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification.
- Responsible for paying fees associated with certifications.
- Maintains good working knowledge of communications consoles and system capabilities.
- Maintains good working knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System.
- Makes proper and timely notifications to supervisory and management staff regarding issues of importance or unusual occurrences.
- Enters activity updates and notifications in “note” database.
- Keeps Lead Dispatcher informed of system status and direction needed.
- Attends all mandatory staff and in-service meetings as required.
- Reports system malfunctions immediately to appropriate supervisor or manager.
- Maintains good work relationship with employees customers, public safety agencies and
- Monitors public safety radio communications for updates to status of field activities. Advises Lead Dispatcher and makes notes in data base as appropriate.
- Allows appropriate time to give report and system overview to on-coming Dispatcher.
- Maintains proper grooming and hygiene.
- Works and rotates all shifts assigned by management in accordance with posted schedule.
- Accepts overtime when requested.
- Attends appropriate Continuing Education Classes as required.
- Offers suggestions for improvement of system through proper channels of communication.
- Maintains accurate inventory and locations of resources assigned.
- Maintains accurate and legible written logs and communications when appropriate.
- Responsible for accurate and timely processing of all requests for non-urgent transportation services.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisors and/or management staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to accurately read maps and give appropriate directions.
- Must be able to listen accurately and respond in clearly and in an appropriately authoritative manner.
- Accurate keyboarding skill of at least 45 WPM.
- Knowledge of the use of emergency medical transport procedures, facilities and equipment.
- Comprehensive understanding of all rules, regulations, policies and procedures that apply to Hall Ambulance Service Inc.
EDUCATION
Equivalent to the completion of high school supplemented with college level course work.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Kern County EMS liscensure as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher.
- Valid and current Class C California Drivers License.
- Valid and current CPR & 1st Aid certifications.
- Keyboard certification of at least 45 WPM.
